I happen to like what you describe as a “rinky tink” melody. It is uplifting. It is happy music. I have all three verses of this song memorized and it is often my morning shower song. I guess you would be disappointed my my shower concerts. It’s all about balance, sir. Balance. Another of my morning concert songs, it “All that Thrills my Soul” and I particularly like the song, “O Sacred Head now Wounded” for both the words and outstanding harmony. So, you are judging a person by music here. Shame on you.

H-m-m… Well, “shame on you” is more than a little strong. 🙂 And as to shower concerts, I’ll leave you to be your own critic there. (But don’t ya just love the acoustics in the bathroom!) I’ve been known to bellow all kinds of things in the shower. This morning, shaving was accompanied by a mangled version of “Winter Wonderland.”

More to the gist of your comment, blogs are all about expressing a point of view. Sometimes, considering the perspective of another person can help us to refine our own.

Actually, in this case, you’ve helped to confirm my thesis. You like the melody. And that’s where too many people land…and stop (not to say you do). I like the melody too. It’s a lively, jolly thing. But my point was that sometimes in our hymns (especially because they have a number of stanzas) a melody that fits the theme and mood at one place, may not do so at another. God bless.
