New Book on Kickstarter!
A new devotional book featuring hymns all year long – including articles from Robert Cottrill – is now up on Kickstarter!
If you love meditating on the Lord with Psalms and hymns, this is the book for you – with devotionals for every day of the year, featuring almost 400 hymns in all. And if you love Wordwise, you’ll be excited to hear that Robert Cottrill’s work will be back in print for the first time since Discovering the Songs of Christmas (not including his newspaper articles, which were published into 2019). His devotionals, along with many, many other authors, will be featured.
The editor is hymn scholar Chris Fenner, and the book will include many other authors such as Martin Luther, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Francis Ridley Havergal, Gloria Gaither, John Bunyan, Susannah Spurgeon – well, the list goes on and on.
There are a number of benefits to supporting this project on Kickstarter:
- You’ll be among the first to get a copy. The print version should be shipping in January, and the digital version should be coming in November – plenty of time to start 2025 with your new daily readings. If you’re in Canada or the USA, a pledge of USD 35 (plus shipping) will give you both the print and digital versions.
- A portion of the proceeds of this book will go toward the ministry of this website, and possibly future publications. When he passed away, Robert was working on a series of books similar to Discovering the Songs of Christmas. I would love to see those get into your hands as well!
- Rewards! A pledge for a print copy will get you a copy signed by the editor, and a higher pledge will get you a framed reproduction of “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” (see My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (Resignation)) and the third item in the hymn almanac for the 5th of November), a musical paraphrase of Psalm 23 by Isaac Watts.
- The devotional itself – most of all, this book will be a year-long tour of meditations and music from 3000+ years of worship. I have often recommended that you have a Bible and a hymnbook handy for your daily time with the Lord. Not that the hymnbook is inspired, but music does speak to us in a different way as we join with believers around the world and throughout history as they meditation on what God has revealed in His Word. This is a great way to do that in the year to come.
The Kickstarter campaign is only open until the 23rd of October 2024 at 12:14 CST, so head on over there now to make a pledge! The book is called Hymns & Devotions for Daily Worship. Thanks for checking it out! And enjoy!
